Educational School Farm Tours in Shelby NC at HarvestWorks

Educational/School Farm Tours are designed to meet the various goals required by North Carolinas’ standard course of study by grade level. To see some of our animals visit the Petting Zoo page.

Brief Description:

Children will take a tractor tram ride through the woods to our barn where they'll meet our animals. Then they'll learn about them in our spectacular puppet show. Next there's a tour of the farm to learn about composting, sustainable organic gardening, our Wiggly Grow™, weaving/spinning demonstration on our looms with alpaca fur, and more.

Testimonials:

Bethware Elementary

"We want to thank you all so much for providing us with a wonderful field trip.  We all had sooo much fun!  Our students were getting in the cars this afternoon talking about petting the animals and finding the 'pretty rocks'.  This is my 6th year with Head Start and I have to say this was the best field trip I have been on.  Please thank all of the staff for us!

We ended up having 48 students attend and we purchased 51 plants.  Please send the bill to Ginger Jackson or Joann Penner at the Office of School Readiness at 124 South Post Rd.  Please note on the bill the amount for the students and the amount for plants separately because it will come out of two different funds.

Again, thank you so much for all you did today.  We will definitely be visiting in the future and we will let all of our fellow teachers know about HarvestWorks."

"We just wanted to thank you for an awesome field trip. Forest City-Dunbar Elementary had the time of our lives when we came on April 1st.  I know we packed in a lot that day but it made for such a fun and exciting time of learning!

My kids enjoyed every aspect of the trip because they learned so much.  For many, they may have never had a chance to feed and touch an animal like they did there. They were like little toddlers - full of excitement and joy.  Seeing the life cycles with their very own eyes was also very exciting.

We, as teachers teach that "stuff" from a book and we try to do little activities to make it more fun --- but nothing compared to being able to see how it all works together at Harvest Works.  For many, the gem mining was their favorite because they felt like they were "discovering gold".

They had such a good time and we were thrilled to see our students learning so much! Thanks for such an incredible field trip! This is one trip we will never forget!! You all ROCK!!!!"
